This book may be the best book I’ve read in 2022。 The connection between mother and daughter was tear jerking。 It made me miss my mother while reading。

I simply loved it! I was a little irritated with Katy initially due to the fact that she was so enmeshed with her mother but as the book progressed, she also became aware of her issues and set about to solve them and get to know herself and in hindsight her mother better! It was set in such a beautiful place that makes you want to book a trip there ASAP!

I found One Italian Summer slightly depressing with a failed attempt at time travel。 It just didn’t work。 So disappointed after how much I loved In Five Years。

3。75 I loved many things about this novel but others I had a hard time with。 I find the main character annoying and whiny at parts。 The descriptions of Italy were wonderful and the underlying message of the book was uplifting。

I adored this beautiful story of the relationship between a mother and daughter。 I loved the magical realism within the story。 I loved the ending。 Are you seeing a theme here? This was a truly huggable book that is a love story to relationships of all kinds: parent & child, spouses, friends, summer romances。 All of it。 I first read Rebecca Serle's book The Dinner List when no one I knew was talking about it。 I loved that book so much。 It was very personal to me。 Then six months later I had the o I adored this beautiful story of the relationship between a mother and daughter。 I loved the magical realism within the story。 I loved the ending。 Are you seeing a theme here? I knew I wasn’t going to like the main character but oh my god she was so annoying and self centered she totally ruined this book and story for me。 I hated the way she treated her husband and the weird obsession with her mother。

Beautifully written。 Katie should not have married; she was too tied to her mother which makes her a hard character to understand。 I don’t enjoy paranormal and wish I had known that it would go in that direction。 Would have been a three except for the writing。

3。5 stars。 The audiobook is narrated by Lauren Graham。 This is a sweet love story between a daughter and her mother

I feel a bit mean giving a three star rating but after finishing this I really couldnt decide just what I thought。。。The story travelled along nicely, I found the characters all quite interesting, and the setting of Positano sounded so amazing, it made me want to visit。But I didnt like the relationship between Katy and her mother, I found it too overbearing and all consuming。 I know the grief of her mothers death is what spurs Katy on the journey of self descovery but even that is taken over by h I feel a bit mean giving a three star rating but after finishing this I really couldnt decide just what I thought。。。The story travelled along nicely, I found the characters all quite interesting, and the setting of Positano sounded so amazing, it made me want to visit。But I didnt like the relationship between Katy and her mother, I found it too overbearing and all consuming。 I know the grief of her mothers death is what spurs Katy on the journey of self descovery but even that is taken over by her。I also didnt like the unexplained presence of a younger Carol on the trip? Maybe I am the sort of person who likes everything tied up nicely but this just left me with more questions than answers? Did she time travel, was she just dreaming, why was there such an emphasis on the story of Adam wanting to buy the hotel when it was never really relevent?I think on reflection 3 stars is a fair review and although I enjoyed this book it did not blow me away。 。。。more

Loved the Italian setting, I felt like I was in Positano with Katy and it has me longing to travel back to Italy。 The story is about Katy's grief and growth but that took a backseat to me as I was there for all the food and scenery descriptions! How do you ever have a happy, healthy relationship with a man when "the love of your life" is your mother? Despite the premise that Carol was beloved by everyone, she was a controlling wife and mother who nurtured her daughter to become dependent and helpless, unable to put her own husband first。 This book is a primer on what NOT to do to raise an independent, loving woman。 How do you ever have a happy, healthy relationship with a man when "the love of your life" is your mother? Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an eARC in exchange for an honest review。3。5 stars rounded up。This was a really easy read, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it。 The premise didn't resonate with me - I found it hard to relate to the main character's close relationship with her mother and how it dominates her life。 Even after finishing the book, I'm not sure about the characters or how the story developed。 Regardless, the story was well written to the point where I foun Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an eARC in exchange for an honest review。3。5 stars rounded up。This was a really easy read, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it。 The premise didn't resonate with me - I found it hard to relate to the main character's close relationship with her mother and how it dominates her life。 Even after finishing the book, I'm not sure about the characters or how the story developed。 Regardless, the story was well written to the point where I found myself enjoying the journey, and I am now really craving a trip to the Amalfi coast, or at the very least some Italian food。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I was so onboard for this novel for the first 60%。 Emotional healing after the death of a loved one - gimmie。 However, the toxic mother-daughter relationship and subsequent cheating that got swept under the rug at the end really soured this for me。

Katy is completely devastated when her mother dies from cancer。 She is ready to leave her marriage and is at a complete loss as to how to live her life without her mom。 She decides to take a trip to Italy that she and her mother were to take together。 Upon arrival, she meets Carol, her mother, but 30 years younger! The plot/premise of this book was intriguing to say the least。 However, the continual mawkish proclamations of love for her mother are nauseating。 She even tells her husband that her Katy is completely devastated when her mother dies from cancer。 She is ready to leave her marriage and is at a complete loss as to how to live her life without her mom。 She decides to take a trip to Italy that she and her mother were to take together。 Upon arrival, she meets Carol, her mother, but 30 years younger! The plot/premise of this book was intriguing to say the least。 However, the continual mawkish proclamations of love for her mother are nauseating。 She even tells her husband that her mother was the love of her life。 This message goes too far and, in my opinion, ruins what could have been a magical book especially considering the setting。 I ended up loathing Katy instead of feeling any sympathy for her which overshadowed the plot。 I had high expectations for this one, but it falls short。 2。5 stars roundes up Thank you to @libro。fm for the audio ARC。 。。。more

I LOVED In Five Years, so I was a little worried that this one would not live up to the hype。 But it did。 I realize now that magical realism is something I hella enjoy in my books, and Rebecca Serle threads the needle perfectly。 Her writing is beautiful and I could picture Positano and the hotels and places Katy visited。 I’ll be recommending this one for awhile。

Didn’t care for the story line。 Enjoyed the view of Italy。 Made me wanna be there

I don’t know if this would be a five star book for all readers, but…wow did I connect with the main character and her debilitating grief over losing her mother。 The chance to spend one last significant moment with someone you’ve lost, and the wish to know what a parent was like before you were a part of their life (the good and bad) are so poignant。 And her descriptions of Italy made me miss traveling so much。 Not sure I loved the ending, but the rest of it hit home so directly。

Tegan

Grief is strange。 It affects people in ways we cannot even imagine。 Who’s to say that this main character processed her grief in the ‘right’ way or whether or not what she could have experienced, as magical as it can be imagined, was real enough to teach her the lessons she most needed to hear。

Wow—I cried a whole bunch while reading this one。 But gosh, what a beautiful story set in the gorgeous town of Positano。 I both highly recommend for those who are especially close with a parent and warn you that it will bring out all the feelings。 An easy 5 star read for me。Thank you to Atria Books for the advanced copy

1 ⭐️ for taking me away to a beautiful setting 1 more ⭐️ for Lauren Graham reading the audiobook I thought maybe this book just came at a hard time for me。 While reading/reviewing my mom is sick and in the hospital。 I thought maybe this was just not sitting well because of the timing。 Then I looked back at my review of her previous book and I basically could have copied and pasted the review - except replace Lauren Graham with Megan Hilty。 I feel like this author kinda dishes up the same thing b 1 ⭐️ for taking me away to a beautiful setting 1 more ⭐️ for Lauren Graham reading the audiobook I thought maybe this book just came at a hard time for me。 While reading/reviewing my mom is sick and in the hospital。 I thought maybe this was just not sitting well because of the timing。 Then I looked back at my review of her previous book and I basically could have copied and pasted the review - except replace Lauren Graham with Megan Hilty。 I feel like this author kinda dishes up the same thing but served a little different。 For example (in honor of Italy) I will use ravioli for an example。 Each book has a different stuffing (cheese。 Or spinach。 Or beef。) and a different sauce (pesto, marinara, Alfredo sauce)。 But it’s all ravioli。 It’s all basically the same thing。 。。。more

Read it in one day! I loved the twist, and how Positano was described! It literally made me want to go there and stay at the Hotel Poseidon and eat at La Tagliata。 I've written down all the spots so I can visit them when I go to Italy! Hopefully soon! At first, it took me a bit to get into the story because I just could't like the main character and I found her annoying, way too obsessed with her mother and not fair to her husband。 But I'm glad I kept reading and I loved the twist and the parts Read it in one day! A love letter to Italy and the Amalfi coast, with grief, mother-daughter relationships and life choices woven in。 As someone with an extremely close relationship to my mother, this one hit close to home, and tears did fall, but the end left me feeling warm and content。

I love the way Rebecca Serle bends time and space to create her stories and their flow。 This was a 3。5 rounded up to a 4 because of the beautiful setting and cover art for me!

I wanted to like this book so much more than I did。 Katy was too whiney。 It was almost like a coming-of -age book about a teenager, not a 30 year old woman。
